Maggie Gyllenhaal in Lanvin.
Blue leopard print usually invokes images of bad Psychobilly accessories from 1998 for me, but the cut of this dress carries the pattern beautifully. Leopard print used in a whole piece still looks good with a visual break - here, it's the black waistband, cinching close to Maggie's slim figure and giving our eyes a break from all the Cat.
Maggie looks like a true individual in the sea of Hollywood frou-frou.
Also, I like how someone just left a bottle of champagne on the ground behind Maggie - c'est Beverly Hills Hilton, I guess. Excuse my French.

Kyra Sedgwick in Oscar de la Renta.
Blah blah blah, you've heard it before, this is a true Hollywood classic silhouette. I've be obsessing over sweetheart necklines for the past season, so I'm a sucker for this dress already. The angled rusching is testament to the superior construction of this dress. And I love mermaid tails - a skirt cut close to the curves, then flaring out to show off the dress fabric, a touch of excess? Yes please.
And when is the belt with a dress EVER a good idea? It's NEVER a good idea, but the belt is the best part in this design. It looks finely made, and provides a clean, casual wear feel to a very formal silhouette and design. For me, it's almost a nod to formal menswear, selling the modernization of a classic well. I want this dress!

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta.
It's really difficult to resist Oscar de la Renta - he works the big pouffy skirt onto a woman's curves expertly. This gown is grown-up goth to me, and I would like to see it goth-ed out to the max, but whatever, Amy is a sweetheart and probably isn't down with that shit. She successfully invokes the symbol of a Hollywood film noir siren. Garbo could wear it with small tux jacket with satin lapels and kill people with looks.
The fact that Amy Adams wears it fortifies her stance as one of the fashion-savvy stars in current entertainment. Classic, but updated. Prim but sexy. An icon, but still modern - note the loose hair and natural make-up palette.
Just some MAD MEN love:

January Jones in Versace.
January Jones tends to rebel against her Betty Draper persona in real life, but I see this blue structured gown as a nod to her character. Icy, refined, disciplined and elegant. January also wears the Mrs. Draper red lipstick and blonde bob curls, so she's in character in my head. I want to see her smoking out of a diamond-encrusted cigarette holder with this dress.
Nikki Finke is right - the Golden Globes are pretty much bullshit, since the awards are bought by studios and producers alike. Nepotism looks good on the red carpet though.
Also, I love Kate Winslet, and love her a little more for forgetting Angelina Jolie's name.
